Cab Ellis
For three weeks in August 2021, Cab Ellis holed up in the converted farmhouse Bear Creek Studio of Woodinville, WA. Far away from the noise and bustle of their lives in Los Angeles, they recorded their second album, "The East Coast Hold On." With the help of producer Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Regina Spektor), the band hammered away at 11 songs, experimenting with alternate guitar tunings, loops, and even layering more than 50 saxophones on one song to craft their own indie-rock sound.
Nearly 10 years prior, frontman Connor Abeles began searching for beats he could rap to on his family desktop computer and started recording mixtapes via a simple headphone mic. To further pursue his passion for music, he joined the high school church choir but struggled with the strict rules of classical singing and knew he'd have to look elsewhere.
When Abeles moved to Los Angeles in 2018 and met Matt Richards, the solo act evolved into a five-piece band. From then on, Cab Ellis gained buzz for their live shows at renowned venues such as the Troubadour, Whisky A Go-Go, and The Viper Room. In 2019, NPR selected their song "Flashback" and invited the band to perform on the Tiny Desk Contest: On The Road Tour. Cab Ellis released their self-produced debut album "Nighttime OCD" in the spring of 2020. Their second album, "The East Coast Hold On," is due out in March 2022.
